Common Conditions Treated by Podiatrists
We’ve put together some information about common podiatric conditions and the standard treatments available. If you are concerned that any of these conditions may be affecting you, give Dr. Milos Tomich, DPMSC, a call today.

Some of the most common conditions treated by podiatrists are fungal conditions (including athlete’s foot, which is a contagious disease caused by a fungus that thrives on moist surfaces) and ringworm.

Bunions, which are a painful, inflamed swelling of the bursa at the first joint of the big toe, are characterized by enlargement of the joint and lateral displacement of the toe.

Corns are horny indurations or callosity of the epidermis, usually with a central core, formed especially on the toes or feet and caused by undue pressure or friction.

Calluses are a hardened or thickened part of the skin.

Ingrown toenails are toenails that have their free tips or edges embedded in the surrounding flesh.

Warts are hard, rough lumps growing on the skin, caused by infection with certain viruses. They occur typically on the hands or feet.

Hammertoe is a claw-like deformity of a toe, usually the second or third toe, in which there is a permanent flexion of the second and third joints.

Mallet toe is a fixed or flexible deformity of the distal interphalangeal (DIP) joint of the toe.
